Why I'm Running

I lift people up."

Having earned a degree in Neurobiology, I spent 3-4 hours per day, 5-6 days per week educating my daughter since kindergarten. And, because of that support, today, despite her learning disabilities, my daughter is in college pursuing a double major in Psychology and Spanish.

I knew I was not the only person who had to stand up to an unresponsive healthcare and education system and dedicated my life, not only to helping my daughter, but to helping families who are struggling have a better future.

As an educator and scientist, I continued to broaden the scope of my activism. I am a Founding Executive Board Member of a nonprofit focused on women’s reproductive health and education, as well as a fund that provides protections for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in care programs. I'm a former Vice President and Director of the Dublin San Ramon Services (water) District and a current San Ramon City Councilmember where I helped establish the first ever Climate Action Task Force charged with informing our City's Climate Action Plan and with chartering a Sustainability Committee.

I am running for State Senate because Californians deserve a State Senator who has:

  • The integrity to deliver on their promises and to uphold our values and communities' interests first.

  • The intersectional personal, professional, and political experience to effectively address our most complex socioeconomic issues and climate crisis, and

  • The transparency to maintain an open line of communication with our constituents.

You will not have a more tenacious and dedicated representative in Sacramento.

This is why my daughter is now a long-term cancer survivor and a college student.

And this is why I am asking for your vote by November 5th!

Gratefully,

I have always been determined to turn every obstacle into an opportunity and to make every challenge a chance for progress.

When my infant daughter was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer, doctors advised hospice care instead of treatment. However, I would not give up on my daughter. I advocated for her, researched various treatments, and chose one that led to her recovery.

Similarly, upon graduating high school, district representatives advised me to be "realistic" with my daughter about her future expectations to attend college and to enter the medical field, but I simply responded, "I am not in the business of setting ceilings.

As Your State Senator I Will Work To:

  • Dedicate more resources towards affordable, workforce housing and collaborate with our cities to make rental rates and homeownership more feasible for working families.

  • Ensure that California has the most comprehensive reproductive health care laws in the country.

  • Secure more investments to address public safety, including help for at-risk youth, gun violence prevention, and efforts to disrupt vehicle break-ins and retail theft.

  • Champion laws that help EVERY Californian attain access to quality, affordable, and timely health care, including mental health care.

  • Expand programs that help us all age with dignity and independence.

  • Prioritize pre-K through college education and services that help the unhoused rebuild their lives.

  • Comprehensively address the homelessness crisis providing the unhoused with the wraparound services, housing, and stability they need to rebuild their lives.

  • Work with cities across the state to address our climate crisis with urgency by creating more sustainable and resilient cities.

  • Protect our cherished open spaces and allocate resources to revitalize our downtowns, transit, and safe streets for all.
